The river is my home. It’s where I spent most of my summers growing up and where I learned to love nature. There’s nothing sweeter than the smell of a river on a brisk morning, nor is there anything more exhilarating than conquering a massive rapid in a kayak.
In the summer of 2020, my family and I floated the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, located in the Frank Church Wilderness of Idaho. It’s like winning the lottery whenever you get to go; you have to enter a competitive permit process and have your name pulled out of a hat in order to receive the privilege of this 5-day river adventure.
This was my sixth time going. Others, like my dad, were on their 26th trip and counting. I decided to take a disposable camera along with me to capture this beautiful 100-mile river, and despite being water damaged after flipping in a kayak, the photos still came through. This was the result.
